For Simon, contact lenses are mainly a summer habit. During most of the year, he is perfectly happy wearing glasses. But when the brighter days arrive and he starts spending more time outdoors, he uses daily contact lenses more often.
The main reason is simple: sunglasses.
Instead of needing prescription sunglasses or switching between different pairs of glasses, Simon can put in a fresh pair of daily lenses in the morning and wear whichever sunglasses he likes.
I asked Simon why daily contact lenses have become part of his summer routine and what he appreciates most about using them.
“I like being able to choose any sunglasses”
Why do you use contact lenses more often during summer?
– Mainly because of sunglasses. With contact lenses, I can wear any pair I want. I do not need prescription sunglasses, and I do not have to keep changing between different glasses during the day.
Simon had his daily lenses fitted by an optician and uses the lens model and prescription values recommended for his eyes.
He does not wear contact lenses every day throughout the year. During summer, however, they become a convenient alternative to his glasses.
– On a sunny morning, I can put in the lenses, choose a pair of sunglasses and then not think about it again. It simply makes the day easier.
Daily lenses suit the way he uses them
Simon chose daily contact lenses because he mainly wants to use lenses on selected days rather than all the time.
Why do daily lenses work well for you?
– I like that I use a fresh pair each time. I open a new pack in the morning and throw the lenses away in the evening. There is no cleaning routine and no case to keep track of.
That flexibility is especially useful during holidays and weekends away. He can bring the number of lenses he expects to need without packing cleaning solution or other accessories.
– They are easy to pack. I normally bring a few extra pairs as well, just in case. They take up almost no space.
For Simon, daily contact lenses are not a replacement for glasses. They are simply another option for days when contact lenses fit his plans better.
More freedom on active summer days
Contact lenses are also practical when Simon spends a full day outdoors. He uses them while travelling, walking around a new city, spending time by the sea or meeting friends outside.
When do you notice the biggest difference?
– On days when I move around a lot. I can wear sunglasses, take them off when I go indoors and put them back on again without having to think about changing glasses.
He also appreciates not having to carry several pairs of glasses with him.
– Wearing sunglasses over regular glasses is not really an option, and carrying different pairs quickly becomes annoying. With lenses, it is much simpler.
At the same time, Simon still enjoys wearing glasses.
– I use glasses most days. But in summer, it is nice to have the freedom to choose something else.
Easy to use only when they are needed
One reason daily lenses suit Simon is that he does not have to commit to wearing contact lenses every day.
If the weather is cloudy or he plans to spend most of the day at home, he simply wears his glasses. On sunny days, holidays or active weekends, he can choose daily lenses instead.
Do you plan in advance when you will use them?
– Not really. I usually make sure I have some packs at home before summer starts. Then I can decide in the morning depending on the weather and what I am doing that day.
Once Simon had found daily lenses that worked well for him, he wanted to continue using the same product and prescription values.
– I know which lenses I use and which values I need. I just want to be able to order the same ones again when I am starting to run low.
