For Sara, it started with training. She had worn glasses for many years and was generally happy with them, but during workouts they increasingly became a distraction. They slipped when she got warm, sometimes fogged up and made it harder to focus fully on what she was doing.
Eventually, she booked an appointment with an optician and was fitted for contact lenses. What was initially intended as a solution for training soon became a natural part of her everyday life.
Today, Sara uses both contact lenses and glasses. For her, it is not about choosing one over the other, but about having the freedom to choose what works best on a particular day.
I asked Sara what made her try contact lenses, how she experienced the first few weeks and what she appreciates most about wearing them today.
“I wanted to focus on my training”
What made you decide to try contact lenses?
– My glasses worked well in everyday life, but during training they started to bother me. They could slip when I got warm and sometimes fog up. Most of all, I noticed that I was constantly aware of them.
Sara booked an appointment with an optician for an eye examination and contact lens fitting. She received help finding lenses that suited her eyes and vision, and learned how to insert, remove and handle them correctly.
Were you nervous at first?
– A little. Touching my eye felt unfamiliar, and I thought I would never become quick at putting the lenses in. But I got used to it much faster than I expected.
The first few mornings took a little longer. After a while, putting in her lenses simply became part of the routine.
– Now I hardly think about it. It is quick, and once the lenses are in place, I rarely notice that I am wearing them.
The freedom made the biggest difference
At first, Sara wore her contact lenses almost exclusively when training. Once she became comfortable with them, she started using them on other occasions too.
What is the biggest difference for you?
– The freedom. When I train, I can move without thinking about my glasses slipping or fogging up. I can simply focus on what I am doing.
Contact lenses also became a natural choice while travelling, on active days and when she wanted to wear regular sunglasses.
– There are many small things you may not think about beforehand. Going out in the rain without wet glasses, choosing any sunglasses you like or not having to think about your frames when you are moving around.
That does not mean she has stopped wearing glasses.
– I still like them. At home in the evening or on a quiet day, I am happy to wear glasses. I like being able to choose what works best that day.
Start with an optician
What would you say to someone considering contact lenses?
– Start by visiting an optician. I would never recommend choosing a lens on your own and simply testing it. My optician helped me find the right lenses, and that felt reassuring.
Contact lenses are available in different materials, sizes and designs. Two people with the same prescription do not necessarily need the same type of lens. A proper fitting is therefore important before beginning to wear contact lenses.
Once Sara had found a lens that worked well, she wanted to continue using the same product and prescription values.
– When I know exactly what works for me, I just want to order the same lenses again. I do not want to compare different models every time I need new ones.
Her previous products and lens values are saved in her Netlens customer account, making it easier to check what she has ordered before.
“They should simply work in everyday life”
For Sara, contact lenses began as a practical solution for training. Today, they are a natural complement to her glasses.
What do you appreciate most now?
– Probably that I do not think about them. I put my lenses in and get on with my day. They should simply work in everyday life, and that is exactly what they do.
Her advice to anyone considering contact lenses is simple: book an appointment with an optician, get properly fitted and allow yourself a little time to become comfortable with them.
– It can feel unfamiliar in the beginning, but for me it quickly became a natural part of everyday life.
